Civil War U.S.C.T. Youth Re-enactment Corps at Soldiers & Sailors
Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. has established a Civil War drum a fife re-enactment corps for the 6th Regiment United States Colored Troops. The group has made a few public appearances including Fontana Fest on the South Side and marching in the Veterans' Day Parade in Downtown, Pittsburgh. New recruits are always welcomed. We are looking to recruit 10-12 African American boys and girls ages 14-18 to participate in the program. The students attend weekend meetings at Soldiers & Sailors to learn about the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War, receive military drill training and become skilled at playing the fife and/or drums. Upon completion of the training program the re-enactment corps will participate in parades and ceremonies as representatives of Soldiers & Sailors and its mission of honoring and remembering veterans. We are particularly looking for committed students with an interest in learning about African American history and a strong interest in music. This program is free for the participants and Soldiers & Sailors will provide reproduction Civil War uniforms and equipment as well as all necessary musical instruments. Meeting are held on Saturdays at Soldiers & Sailors from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Lunch is provided at the meeting. Please feel free to contact Tim Neff (412) 621-4253 x219 if you have any questions or if you are interested in participating in the program.
