Soldiers & Sailors Announces its Cannon Ball Military Follies Revue The Honorable Michael E. McCarthy to be Awarded Friend & Patriot of the Year PITTSBURGH - Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. today announced the Cannon Ball Military Follies Revue will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011. The annual fundraiser helps the nonprofit organization sponsor many veteran and educational programs and preserve and maintain the grand memorial and museum. "This year's Cannon Ball will serve as the grand finale of the year long 100th anniversary centennial celebration," said President & CEO John F. McCabe. "We are thrilled to welcome the public and our supporters to help us acknowledge our past achievements and look forward to many more years of service to the public." This year's event will begin with a first ever stage production featured in Soldiers & Sailors' historical auditorium with every ticket purchased directly supporting Soldiers & Sailors' operating budget. Local performing arts groups and companies will perform military and patriotic themes from stage and screen through song, lyrical dance, and short acts, with special performances by Pittsburgh's own Joe Grushecky, Bill Deasy, and band members from The Clarks. Doors will open at 1:00 p.m. to allow guests to tour the museum, explore the historic building and participate in a silent auction. The show will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Soldiers & Sailors. Following the performances, a VIP reception will take place in the grand ballroom featuring a silent auction, entertainment, and food and dessert stations in a 1930s club atmosphere. During the event, Soldiers & Sailors will recognize the Honorable Michael E. McCarthy of the Court of Common Pleas Fifth Judicial District Civil Division with the 2011 Friend & Patriot of the Year award. As a former Navy Seabee, Judge McCarthy is familiar with the trials and tribulations faced by those who have served and are serving our country. Judge McCarthy has graciously donated his time and effort to support Soldiers & Sailors and spread awareness of its mission. He was instrumental in starting the veteran court program in Allegheny County which emphasizes treatment over punishment. "As a veteran, I am keenly aware and supportive of the mission of Soldiers and Sailors; to remember and pay tribute to all who have served our great country in times of war," said the Honorable Michael E. McCarthy. "I am honored and humbled to be chosen as Friend and Patriot of the Year." Attendance is open to the public and tickets are now available for purchase through our website and Blacktie Pittsburgh. VIP reception tickets include the concert performance and reception for $100. Tickets for the concert performance only are $35. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. The historic building was designed by renowned architect Henry Hornbostel and has exhibits covering the Civil War through present day. The museum offers a unique look into American history by telling the stories of the individuals that served our country through military equipment and personal memento, as well as detailing the effects that military conflicts have had on society.
