Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum is proud to announce that the University of Pittsburgh has been named as its 2010 Friend & Patriot of the Year. Soldiers & Sailors  Holds Kick-Off Planning Reception for  100th Anniversary in 2010

Pittsburgh, PA (October 2009) - The historic museum sits atop the hill off Fifth Avenue in Oakland, appearing almost as if it presides over the surrounding campus and hospitals - younger-bodied buildings that have more recently joined the museum on the hillside. Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum has seen many years on that hill - in fact, it will be 100 years next October.

Lieutenant General Christmas Inducted into Hall of Valor for Navy Cross Medal

John McCabe, Executive Vice President & COO, is proud to announce that Lieutenant General George R.(Ron) Christmas, USMC retired has been inducted into the Joseph A. Dugan Hall of Valor for the Navy Cross Medal he received serving in Vietnam during Operation Hue City. The induction was held during a special dinner ceremony sponsored by Value Ambridge Properties, Ambridge Regional Distribution & Manufacturing Center.

McGrath Brothers Restoration Project


   Five McGrath Brothers In The Civil War

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. announces the beginning of a restoration project of a large 44"x 36" framed charcoal photographic portrait of five Civil War soldier brothers from Allegheny County. Originally titled "Five Brothers in the Civil War" the portrait was taken in 1894 of the 4 surviving McGrath brothers standing beside a vacant chair, a metaphor for a departed family member. The chair is made into an impromptu shrine to the fifth brother who fell in battle at Chickamauga Georgia in 1863.

Memorial Day Celebration

WHAT:          Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Day Celebration

WHY:             Soldiers & Sailors will be holding its annual Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.  This event sponsored by National Physique Committee, USA, is free to the public and is aimed at remembering the men and women who proudly serve or have served in our country's armed forces.  Included during the event are free admission into the museum, live entertainment, children's activities, veteran remembrance activities and two special programs.
