For many, the first thoughts of individuals serving in a war lead to images of battle. However, most soldiers and sailors spend much more time off the battlefield than they do in combat. It has been said that war can be “long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of terror”. For most military personnel around the world, thoughts of home and family are often an important source of comfort needed to pass the free time. Others find ways to keep themselves busy by constructing things, creating art, collecting objects or just finding unique ways to entertain themselves. Join us to learn about artifacts from the collection that focus on the “other side” of a soldier’s life.
