Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc. has proudly unveiled a new statue dedicated to those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The life size bronze monument is titled “America’s Defenders” and features a male and a female soldier representing all who have served since 2001 in the Global War on Terrorism. America’s Defenders was designed and sculpted by Soldiers & Sailors Curator Michael Kraus, an award-winning artist and sculptor. Currently, the statue is displayed atop the Bigelow Boulevard steps on the east side of the Memorial until it is relocated within Remembrance Park, the exciting and future renovation project of the Memorial’s front lawn.
On Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th, 2022, we will begin a new era for our Memorial and our Mission by inviting all Post 9/11 Veterans of the Global War on Terrorism to join us for an evening of commencement and camaraderie. With America’s Defenders front and center, the evening will convey our inspiration for the statue with a ceremony in the auditorium and a special exhibit demonstrating its creation. We are truly privileged to share this extraordinary piece of historical art with the veteran community it is intended to honor.
All attending Post 9/11 Veterans will be recognized at the ceremony and receive an exclusive “America’s Defenders” memorial token (while supplies last). The event is open to the entire community.
