In 1963, the Hall of Valor at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall was dedicated as part of our military history museum to honor veterans, living and deceased, for valor "above and beyond the call of duty" while in action against the enemy. Hall of Valor inductees qualify by being the recipient of one, or a combination of, the following medals: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross, Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross (limited inductions also include Airmen’s Medal, Soldier's Medal, Coast Guard Medal and The Navy & Marine Corps Medals). Induction into the Hall of Valor is open to eligible veterans who were born, enlisted or lived most of their lives in Pennsylvania. Currently there are more than 700 veterans that have been inducted into this repository of American military memory.
On November 12, 2006 the Hall of Valor was renamed to the Joseph A. Dugan, Jr. Hall of Valor in memory of Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum Trust, Inc.’s first President and CEO. His dedication to our mission to honor and remember those who serve helped to make the museum and the Hall of Valor what they are today.
