Are you looking to make your next event one for the history books? Located in the heart of Oakland, Soldiers & Sailors is only minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The surrounding educational and cultural landmarks and the classical Hornbostel architecture create a one of a kind setting for any event. Opened in 1910, Soldiers & Sailors is rich with history. In 2000, Soldiers & Sailors became a non-profit museum and through capital funding made significant renovations including the addition of air conditioning and the restoration and enhancement of its rental facilities. History, legends and traditions thrive within the newly restored walls of Soldiers & Sailors.

With a variety of available areas, Soldiers & Sailors provides a distinctive alternative to conventional venues for a refined and formal event or for a fun and casual affair.

Our Rental Spaces

Grand Ballroom

Simple but elegant grandeur awaits you in this beautifully detailed ballroom with its 50-ft. decorative ceiling. Your event will be spectacularly showcased when surrounded by the upper-level balcony with accents of green and red. The spacious ballroom with its hardwood floor lends itself easily to seated meals, strolling cocktail mixers, meetings, expos, lectures, fashion shows, and an array of other business or private affairs. The ballroom’s pocket doors permit partial or complete room closure depending on your needs and wishes.
Auditorium

Auditorium

The Auditorium is known for its brilliant acoustics and intimate feeling for the 2300 guest capacity. Our 78-ft. wide stage features sculpted eagles atop ornate rows of columns beneath the largest known hand-painted canvas version of Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address. Auditorium renovations include a state-of-the-art Line-Array sound system, carpeting, refinished hardwood flooring and climate control. HallofValor

Hall of Valor

The Hall of Valor with its rich raised paneling is conveniently located on the first floor of the museum. This room is well-suited for private conferences, meetings and dinners, and features a slightly elevated 6 ft. by 27 ft. stage, along with complimentary tables, chairs, podium, microphone and presentation screen. Gatherings of 50 -100 guests are easily accommodated depending on your desired setup style and can be divided by partitions to provide extra breakout areas.
GettysburgRoom

Gettysburg Room

Located on the first floor of the museum, the Gettysburg Room is a perfect space for meetings, conferences and dinners that require a private and intimate atmosphere. Quietly elegant, it can be set up for formal or informal dinner parties and receptions or in a classroom or auditorium style for meetings. Included in the rental fee are tables, chairs, microphone with podium, and a portable screen. The Gettysburg Room comfortably seats 50 – 100 guests depending on your setup style.

The brick patio of Soldiers & Sailors provides a dramatic and impressive location for your outdoor event. The sweeping view of the expansive front lawn is picture perfect for a wedding ceremony or cocktail hour and the architecture of the building provides an outstanding backdrop.

Intimate Spaces

However small your event may be, Soldiers & Sailors has the facilities to fit almost any type of special event. The halls of the museum provide a spacious area for vendors while the Boardroom is ideal for your next important business meeting. These intimate spaces throughout the building are ideal for smaller gatherings or meetings.

Rentals


Soldiers & Sailors will provide a list of exclusive caterers and other vendors who are trained in the policies and procedures of the museum. All of our vendors hold the proper licensing and meet the standards of insurance set forth by the museum. Should your need for tables and chairs exceed the number or variety provided by Soldiers & Sailors it will be necessary to contact one of our Authorized Vendors.

Only Soldiers & Sailors owns the right to purchase, sell, serve and dispense liquor and malt brewed beverages in and on the leased Premises. View a chart of the rental capacities

Entertainment


Soldiers & Sailors reserves the right to approve or disapprove any entertainment offered at a special event to ensure that the nature of the gathering is in the best interest of the museum. The name and type of entertainment must be provided to the Sales Department prior to booking your entertainment.

Lighting, Sound and Media Services


Soldiers & Sailors includes in its rental package a public-address system for most of the rental areas; outside systems cannot be plugged into this system. A state of the art line-array sound system is available in the auditorium. Clients are required to contact and utilize any of our authorized sound and lighting vendors.

Security


Soldiers & Sailors will have special-event personnel on-site for event setup and breakdown. Certain special events will require security, including all events serving alcohol. If the client’s entertainment, speakers, VIPs, dignitaries or special guests have their own private security, the Sales Department must be notified. Failure to do so may result in individual(s) being refused admittance to the museum.

Parking


The museum does not own or operate the subsurface parking garage or parking meters adjacent to its property. The City of Pittsburgh Parking Authority controls the meters if variances are needed.
